How to Connect Smart Plug with Alexa
Step #1: First, insert the smart plug into a wall socket. Either the pairing light on the plug will start flashing or you will have to press the plug’s on/off button for a few seconds to put it in pairing mode.
Step #2: Then open the Alexa app on your phone and tap on Devices on the lower-right and then on the + icon on the top-right. Tap Add Device on the prompt that appears.
Step #3: The Setup page will open with the list of devices. Tap on Plug. That should open up the list of smart plug brands supported by Alexa.
Step #4: Then choose your plug’s brand from the list of supported brands. The setup page will instruct you to download the manufacturer’s app and follow the steps, which would probably be to create an account on the app with a username and password. After that, you will be able to control the plug and the device plugged into it with the manufacturer’s app.
Step #5: But you want to connect to Alexa, so you should return to the Alexa app and either tap on More -> Skills to go to the Alexa skill store. Here you can search for your smart plug’s skill by its name. Alternatively, open your smart plug’s setup page on the Alexa app and tap on Next.
Step #6: Both actions will take you to your smart plug’s skill page. You will need to link your smart plug manufacturer’s account (the one that you created in the app before) to Alexa, so tap on Enable to Use.
Step #7: This will open your smart plug’s manufacturer’s sign-in page where you would need to enter your email ID and password (the same password you created for the smart plug’s app). Tap on Authorize to allow Alexa to control your smart plug and other devices by the same manufacturer.
Step #8: Then choose your plug’s brand from the list of supported brands. The setup page will instruct you to download the manufacturer’s app and follow the steps, which would probably be to create an account on the app with a username and password. After that, you will be able to control the plug and the device plugged into it with the manufacturer’s app.
